WE NEED YOUR HELP
An ambulance requires a driver and at least one trained person (EMT or above) to respond to a call. Certification for a driver takes training and experience totaling 35 hours. Emt-Basic requires 110 hours of training. Virginia Department of Health requires the same training whether the individual is going to be paid for services rendered or not. With more volunteers, each team may only have to run once or twice a week.
Any time and talents you could donate to your volunteer rescue squad would be greatly appreciated. Some may say, "I can't do that medical stuff". That's okay, as there are other ways you can help. For instance, if you can assist in organizing a fund raiser or help by mowing the lawn that's more time trained members can spend focusing on training, patient care and public education. |
And you do all of this for free? You don't get paid !! Why Bother!
WHY VOLUNTEER
Ask any member why they volunteer and they will give you the same answer, "I care about helping others." If it were your loved one needing assistance, wouldn't you want them to have the best care as quickly as possible? How many other jobs have you had (paying or not) where you could say "I made a difference in that person's life" ? As a rescue squad volunteer you make a life and death difference.
